On this great driving hole, grip it and rip it from the elevated tee into a large landing area.  Bunkers frame the left side.  The second shot requires a long iron or a fairway wood into a green protected on the left by a mammoth bunker.

“This hole was designed to require precise shotmaking. Despite its relatively short yardage, a long drive that avoids the encroaching fairway bunkers on the left is necessary to approach this elevated green with a highly lofted, short iron. Also, the severity of the greenside face of each fairway bunker increases with each successive bunker thereby reducing the opportunity to reach the green with a mid-iron exit shot. This requires the accomplished player to thoroughly evaluate the consequences of an inaccurate drive, before electing to simply use the driver. Any approach shot missing the green will result in a testing recovery from one of the grassy hollows surrounding the green.” – Rees Jones, Course Architect
